Blog Update - Happy Hour - Baked Potato Bar and Chinese Auction!

There was a new twist added to Happy Hour Wednesday evening...add in a loaded Baked Potato Bar and the grill fired up for bring your own meat to throw on and you have a meal to remember, in fact the loaded Baked Potato was more than enough for most of the people. Of course there was butter and sour cream, cheese and onions and some great chili! So you can see it was a full meal, on the grill I saw sausages, venison, steaks, chicken and pork chops...so you could bring whatever you wanted to throw on the grill to compliment your loaded baked potato! We have to thank Laurie and Jim and Frankie and Don for another wonderful meal out of the kitchen at 29 Palms RV Resort!! They do a superb job!

However, the meal was just the beginning of the fun...for it was time for some spring cleaning. Perfect time to find those items in the RV that get rarely used and donate them to the Chinese Auction, so from Monday through Wednesday our residents dug deep in their RV's and found those items that they no longer needed and to the clubhouse they went!

The process is fairly simple - the ladies had pieces of paper and plastic cups on each table - it is an open bid type of auction, not bidding on specific items but bidding on the opportunity to get surprised later on....for every bid you write down your number and put a quarter in the cup...you can bid as often as you like, the more bids (numbers) you hold the more prizes at the drawing!

The bidding took about a half an hour and then the fun begins...all the numbers from the bids were replicated on poker chips and put in a large bucket - the ladies selected a donated item and the bid number was drawn, then the person holding that bid number was awarded that prize....by the way, the prizes ranged from a bicycle, a new gas grill, a computer monitor to a pack of toilet paper and golf balls and everything in between.

We had a wonderful crowd!

The prize was only the first part of the fun!



The ladies did a fantastic job of "selling" the item!



By the way there was more than one person who was lucky enough to win an item they donated!

A few prizes were things you can REALLY use!



A couple prizes required "Personal Consultation"...not sure what instruction she was giving!



YES - It really was a "Personal Massager"! Some people are just lucky!



There was trading going on all over with people trading for something they really wanted! And sometimes the prize was just perfect!



All in all another great evening activity by the folks here at 29 Palms RV Resort, the perfect winter retreat!

Last night was really the kick-off to a very busy week. The golf scramble yesterday had its largest turn-out to date with 39 people! Friday we kick off our annual Luau with the burying of the pig on Friday afternoon by the witch doctor then it slow cooks until the unveiling on Saturday evening for our fantastic Luau dinner! Plus I hear there is going to be a Miss Hawaii Contest...plus live music and dancing....capped by a Sunday morning brunch in the clubhouse!!!

Blog Update - Feb 26, 2014 - Wed Happy Hour Plus Birthday!!

It does not take much of an excuse for the group at 29 Palms RV Resort to throw a party, but an 80th Birthday party for one of our long time winter residents is more than enough to get the girls making plans....

Typically on Wednesdays many of the park guests gather in the clubhouse for Happy Hour and then the grill gets fired up and people who want to eat, bring something to throw on the grill and the evening continues...

Well, this week was a little different because there was a birthday in the park which is always an excuse to expand the festivities...so the plans called for some salad dishes brought by everyone and a huge sub sandwich for all to share, along with all types of other goodies and of course a birthday cake!

BTW - This was a surprise party so poor Bob had no clue what he was in for! When he arrived he was met with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday then the "ROAST" started!!

You know you're in trouble when the birthday boy gets seated in front in a single chair! But Bob took it in stride!



Well quite a few people had something to share about poor Bob - golf stories, RV Stories, past parties, you name it he was roasted...however the 29 Palms Thespian Group was not finished with Bob - no they had much more planned and proceeded to display his past prowess with the ladies! Most of which is best left unsaid here!!

Always a good time at 29 Palms RV Resort! make plans to join us next year and join in the fun...

Of course there is still plenty of activities left this year with our Luau on March 7th and 8th. and more after that!

Paintings, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, gourd art, and photography inspired by the park. Open 9 to 5 Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Admission free.

Keys Ranch Tours Step back in time with a guided walking tour of the historic Desert Queen Ranch, where Bill and Frances Keys raised a family and created a self-sufficient life in the early 1900s gold mining era in what is now Joshua Tree National Park. Ranger tours on weekends. Special tours available for artists, photographers, and media.

There are always things to do and see here in the beautiful S California Desert!!

The Annual CAN-AM Golf Challenge

An annual event at the Roadrunner Dunes Golf Course is the two day tournament pitting the Canadian Team against the American Team. It is a great event and well attended with over 60 participants...in years past this tournament has been dominated by the Canadian Team, however the past two years including this year the American Team pulled out a win, but as usual it was very close!

Yesterday was the end of the tournament and was capped by a wonderful luncheon and awards ceremony. Great camaraderie and friendship prevailed throughout the tournament....a good time was had by all...

Blog Update - Mardi Gras Celebration - 29 Palms RV Resort!

It seems the fun never ends at 29 Palms RV Resort and Saturday Night was no exception...it was Mardi Gras at the park and we had a huge turn-out for a fantastic meal of Jambalaya and a great key Lime Pie dessert!! Then of course we had live music and dancing and the 29 Palms Thespian Troupe put on an excellent skit!

The Clubhouse was decorated for the affair and a great time was had by all!







The dance floor was full most of the evening!



Of course for certain songs the line dancers hit the floor!!





Then it was time for some fun - Our very own acting troupe led by Pat Ruth decided that with all the emphasis on the winter Olympics it was time to focus on the summer Olympics and the soon to qualify troupe from 29 Palms who will be vying for a spot in the synchronized swimming put on a wonderful exhibition!



We are still not sure these legs were the real ones! But it was quite a scene!



Of course the evening continued on after the Synchronized Swimming team departed to a huge round of applause but there was more dancing and live music to enjoy!

Blog Update - Another Busy Day at 29 Palms RV Resort!

Wednesday's are always a busy day at the Resort and yesterday was another one!

The morning started off with the weekly Golf Scramble at Road Runner Dunes Golf Course which is adjacent to the RV Resort and one of the huge benefits of a winter at 29 Palms RV Resort...there are plenty of golf specials and always a group from the Park heading over to chase the little white ball! In yesterdays Scramble we had over 30 players which is great!

The day ended with a little change to our typical Wednesday happy Hour - last night we had fantastic Brats on the grill with all the fixin's - it was an expensive affair $2.00 per person! Where else can you get a great fresh cooked meal for $2.00?? No Place - 29 Palms RV Resort is the place to be!

In addition it was time to take a few more couple photos for the people who were either too shy or missed Saturday Night!

The park is NOT without some controversy though - most of the discussion last night had to do with the USA Ladies and Men's Hockey teams taking on the Canadian Teams for GOLD!! Thursday and Friday should be fun!! I have notified the local authorities in case it gets out of hand!!
