Blog Update - Annual Can-Am Golf Challenge

Golf is an important part of winter life here at Twentynine Palms RV Resort. We are fortunate to have a very nice 9 hole regulation course right next door and many of our winter residents participate daily.

Every Wednesday we have a golf scramble and there is also regularly scheduled mens and ladies play.

One of the highlights of the season is the Annual Can-Am Challenge and Banquet. This year the tournament was held on Monday and the banquet and results on Wednesday in our clubhouse.

The park is very Canadian Friendly with many of our snowbirds making the long trek down from our Northern Border.

A few pics on the golf course!

Always Friendly fun on the course!

The Banquet, the crowd gathers!

Some great burgers on the grill!

Served with all the fixins and baked beans!

The results were announced and lo and behold the Canadians captured the trophy back!

The American Team!

You will note there are a bunch more people on the American team and the intricate calculations for the tournament winner was created by the Canadian Captain! The US Captain has asked for a recall and swears next year to win the trophy back!

Our annual Luau Weekend is winding down and it was another memorable time here in the desert!

The Clubhouse was decorated for a Tropical Celebration!

A time for "Tropical Attire"!

Early in the afternoon the Fire Pit was opened and out came our Pork Roasts!

After 22 hours underground they were cooked to perfection!

Moist, tender and very juicy!

Perfection!

About 4:30 the sold out crowd of over 70 people gathered for Tropical Drinks and a wonderful dinner!

The pork was served with rice and green beans and a wonderful Tropical Fruit salad and Fresh bread!

After dinner we were entertained with two wonderful Polynesian Ladies who told us about their homes and showed us some wonderful meaningful dances!

Jim Finses joined in to help our guests teach the Hula!

After our entertainment our DJ Rocked the house!

Some have more fun than others!

Even with the time change about 25 - 30 people were up early for a wonderful pancake and sausage breakfast!

Special Thanks to all the park people who pitched in and helped to create a wonderful Luau Weekend 2017!

Stay tuned next Saturday we celebrate St. Patricks Day with a wonderful "corned beef dinner" in the clubhouse - be sure to sign up by Wednesday!

Tomorrow the Annual Can-Am Golf tournament next door at Roadrunner Dunes and the awards dinner Wednesday in our Clubhouse!

Luau - The Blessing of the Pig!

The day starts early with the fire being started in the fire pit, first thing in the morning - the fire needs to be burned down to a thick bed of hot coals with no flames...so the fire crew starts about 8:30 for the 3:00 pm ceremony!

Don splitting a good piece of mesquite!

Good fire well stocked with wood to burn down!

About 2:30 a crowd gathers outside around the fire pit, inside the Witch Doctor and his Luau Ladies get ready for the blessing!

Outside the "pig" is wrapped and wired in wet burlap!

Right on time the ceremony begins!

Our Witch Doctor is ready!

The Luau Ladies lead the Witch Doctor to the Fire Pit

The Blessing of the Fire and Pig!

Time to load the fire pit with the wrapped "Pig"!

The fire pit lid is closed and the pit covered until tomorrow!

Spud putting on the finishing touches with the shovel!

Time for some "Tropical Drinks"!

Luau weekend is one of the highlights of the winter season here at Twentynine Palms RV Resort. There is a ton of effort that goes into organizing and making it happen. Our kitchen crew does a fantastic job of getting the pork ready and the other items for our dinner Saturday Night - Lori and Jim Prestwood, Don and Frankie Nobert as well as other park guest volunteers.

Jim Prestwood and Don Nobert man the fire pit and do an amazing job!

Our activity directors Bobbie and Jim Groos and Dorothy and Kim Bruhn head up the decorating committee and gather the "Luau Ladies" and make it all come together! Special thanks to our Witch Doctor Wayne Larson!

Special thanks to the park owners, Bill and Vicky Talley, for coming out and making our frozen Pina Coladas!

Looking forward to a great dinner dance tonight!
